Our Presence in the United States

Within the United States, the Sisters of Charity of St. Joan Antida serve the poor, the sick, and the children in many ways.

St. Joan Antida High School (SJA)
This Catholic, all-girls high school stands out, and stands alone, among educational institutions in Wisconsin. Located in downtown Milwaukee, SJA serves a culturally and economically diverse student population and has, in fact, the most diverse population of any school in the City. From its founding, SJA's Sisters and faculty have combined care, discipline and academic challenge to nurture each young woman's giftedness with college-preparatory and business-preparatory curricula.

                                                                      Guardian Angel Learning Center (GALC)

Established in 1933 by the Sisters of Charity of St. Joan Antida to meet the needs of the neighboring community, the Guardian Angel Learning Center continues to serve families with children six weeks old through six years old. The Center provides a Christian atmosphere in which children are loved and respected and educational goals are developed around physical, social, emotional, psychological, spiritual, and intellectual growth and well-being. The Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Serving Where Need Exists
In addition to SJA and the Guardian Angle Learning Center, the Sisters of Charity of St. Joan Antida serve the poor throughout the United States where the need exists including the following ministries:

  • Care for the mentally ill
  • Education: Infant through Grade 12
  • Empowering the elderly
  • Social work
  • Family ministries
  • Parish ministry, including adult education, formation of catechists, religious education, liturgy, youth ministry
  • Ministry with the homeless

I have nothing in view, by the grace of God, but the good of serving God and my neighbor, and no other desire than peace and union with everyone. To teach the poor, to know, love and serve God, is to do in part what the Savior of the world came to do on earth -- to bring about the Kingdom of God.  ~St. Joan Antida Thouret
